Experience
Peruvian native Claudia Llosa (Lima, 1976) studied Communication Studies in Lima and later scriptwriting at the Escuela TAI in Madrid. She began her career in advertising before starting her own film production company.
Her first feature film Madeinusa was released in 2006. Madeinusa enjoyed its premiere in competition at Sundance Festival, won the prize for the best unpublished script at the 2003 Havana Film Festival and several international awards, including the FIPRESCI international critics award at Rotterdam Festival and the Best Latin American Film Award at Malaga Festival, among others.
Three years later, the film La teta asustada (The Milk of Sorrow) was a selection in the Berlinale Competition programme and went on to win the Golden Bear and the FIPRESCI Award. It was the first Peruvian film nominated for the Golden Bear and won the main award.
La teta asustada was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Also in 2010 Claudia Llosa was invited to become a member of Hollywood’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In 2012, her short film Loxoro was a selection in the Berlinale Shorts programme and won the Teddy Award.
Her English-language film debut Aloft (No llores, vuela), starring Jennifer Connelly, Mélanie Laurent and Cillian Murphy, screened in Berlin Competition in 2014 and Sundance Spotlight 2015. It was released in Spain in January 2015 and it will be released in the USA in May.
She is also a Commercial director and has worked with brands such as Estrella Damm, Font Vella, Prom Perú, Entel or American Express.
